Craft Beer & Wine Classes at Total Wine – Raleigh NC

Craft beer and wine can be daunting subjects to unravel, though so easy to enjoy. Total Wine makes drinking good beer & wine even easier by helping translate with customized & unique classes.

This spring we had the pleasure of attending a Belgian Beer class at one of the local Total Wine stores.

Triangle Total Wine, at 6105 Capital, is the only Triangle NC location that currently hosts these classes.  Classes start at 6:30, so even if you have to traverse the Triangle that should give you ample time to get there.

Included in class are ample tastings, snacks, notes (so you don’t have to remember everything), a tasting sheet for evaluating the flavor attributes, and a 10% discount. For a mere $15, it’s a bargain (Wine classes are $25), and as described in the notes, indeed a ‘fun and delicious learning experience’.  Be sure you call ahead as reservations are required – and the classes DO fill up.  Most are limited to 30.

The class was full of information on Belgian styles – Witbier, Saison/Farmhouse, Trappist, Abbey, Dubbel, Tripel, and Quadrupel – and what makes them unique, the appropriate glassware, and some brewery history.  The attendees clearly had a great time learning and tasting such a fine array of Belgians.

• Huyghe Delirium Tremens
• Lindemans Framboise Lambic
• Stone Cali-Belgique IPA
